It could be surprising to many if a child ends up writing a book in an attempt to answer a question. Well, it is not for the girl born in Washington D.C, Dorothy Elmhirst Straight, the youngest author. She was just 4 years old when she completed her book, “How The World Began”. She wrote in the year 1962, which was later published in 1964 by Pantheon Books, making her the youngest published author.
She wrote the book for her grandmother, in response to the question, “Who made the world?” Her stories reflect the broad spectrum of imagination that a child may have. For example, at the end of the story she quotes ‘and then god went to sleep and slept for 40 whole days’, which was illustrated through a picture of god in bed with yellow pyjamas.
