Google Inc.
Google originally named as Backrub. It started in the year 1995, Stanford University when Larry Page and Sergey Brin, started working from their dorm rooms and built a search engine called Backrub which later renamed to Google- a play on the mathematical expression for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. It got a lot of attention from the academic community and Silicon Valley investors. After which, Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder signed Larry and Sergey a check for $100,000, and hence Google Inc. in August 1998.
The investment helped the incorporation to upgrade from garage to their first office in California, owned by Susan Wojcicki (current CEO of YouTube). And then the first 'Doodle' which appeared in 1998- a stick figure in the logo to symbolize playing hooky at the Burning Man Festival. The hardship and struggle finally moved Google from a small garage to The Googleplex in Mountain View, California.
