Around the globe, among the preventive measures, wearing a face mask has become an essential part of every day to avoid the coronavirus infection. But dealing with billions of these disposed of facemasks is a challenge for the nations. Where China is already going through a tough time handling tonnes of facemasks and other single-use items. It is reported that the rocket speed at which the amount of medical wastes is quadrupling, has left the scientists perturbing.
The demand for surgical masks around the globe has seen a sudden spike, and the Chinese manufacturers are producing about 116 million a day. Not to forget that China tops among the world’s polluters list, with an estimate of 2 million tonnes of medical waste and among which, the city Wuhan alone produced 17,000 tonnes of medical waste in the year 2018.
On the other side, Sikkim is introducing eco-friendly bamboo water bottles for tourist, an alternative to plastic water bottles and free the town from plastic litters. Lachen, a town in India, completely bans packaged drinking water bottles in a fight against plastics. The innovation of making water bottles out of bamboo was earlier reported in the year 2019 and eventually, states started adopting the concept.
